Properties:
The herb is sweet in flavour, neutral in nature and acts
on the lung, spleen and kidney channels. Being sweet in
taste and moist in nature for tonifying the spleen and
mildly nourishing Qi and Yin, it is a good herb for
hypofuntion of the spleen and stomach and deficiency of Qi
and Yin. Mainly acting on the lung and kidney for
moistening dryness of the lung and tonifying the
kidney-yin, the herb is used to treat dry cough de to
deficiency of the lung, damp heat due to deficiency of
Yin, diabetes due to deficiency of the kidney, and other
syndromes.
Effects:
Nourishing Yin, moistening the lung, tonifying the spleen
and invigorating Qi.
Indications:
1. To treat dry
cough with little sputum due to deficiency of the
lung-yin, the herb can be used in combination with
straight ladybell root, ophiopogon root, fritillary bulb
and other drugs for nourishing Yin and moistening the
lung.
2. The drug is
often used in combination with bangshen, astragalus root,
poria and other herbs for invigorating Qi and
strengthening the spleen, to treat anorexia, loose stool,
emaciation and lassitude caused by Qi deficiency of the
spleen and stomach; and with ophiopogon root fragrant
solomonseal rhizome, straight ladybell root, chicken¡¯s
gizzard-skin and other drugs for nourishing Yin and
inducing appetite, to treat dry mouth and anorexia due to
deficiency of the stomach-yin.
3. To treat
dizziness, palpotation aching and weakness of the waist
and knees caused by hypofunction of the liver and kidney
and deficiency of essence and blood, the herb can be used
in combination with wolfberry fruit, desertliving
cistanche, fleece-flower root and other herbs for
nourishing essence and blood.
