Properties: Peppermint is pungent in flavour, cool in nature and acts on the lung and liver channels. Pungent for dispersion and cool for clearing heat, it can disperse pathogenic wind-heat from the lung channel, clear heat from the head and eye, promote eruption, relieve sore throat, regulate the liver-qui, soothe the liver and alleviate mental depression, It is often used to treat wind-heat affected by exopathogens and stagnation of the liver-qi.

Indication:

1.To treat wind-heat affected by exopathogens, fever and headache, or initial stage of epidemic febrile disease at Wei phase, peppermint is often used in combination with honeysuckle flower, forsythia fruit and other herbs, such as Yin Qiao Powder.

2.  To treat headache, conjunctival congestion, sore throat and other symptoms due to upward attack by wind-heat, peppermint can be used in combination with mulberry leaf, chrysanthemum flower, schizonepeta and other herbs.

3. To treat infantile measles without smooth eruption or itching from Germen measles, it is often used in combination with schizonepeta, ledebouriella root, arnebia or lithosperm root and other herbs.

In addition, peppermint can also be used to treat syndromes caused by stagnation of the liver-qi. However, because its potency is relatively weak, it is mainly used as an auxiliary herb.
